ISA names new marketing & media team
Carlos Escaba new Marketing & Media Manager: Jose Duarte Latin America Coordinator | espanol
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 4 December, 2012 : - - The International Surfing Association (ISA), announced today the hire of Carlos Escaba as the new Marketing and Media Manager and Jose Duarte as the new Latin America Media Coordinator effective immediately. Escaba is the former Senior Marketing Coordinator at FOX Deportes USA and Duarte is the former Editor-in-Chief of Surfos Magazine, the leading surf publication in Central America.
Working with the ISA President, Fernando Aguerre, and reporting to Director General, Bob Mignogna, Carlos will be responsible for the strategy, planning, execution, and budget management for all ISA marketing and media initiatives including events, consumer outreach, media relations, communications, and fundraising.
"We have found the perfect team in Carlos and Jose," said ISA President Fernando Aguerre. "The combination of their professional media experience and passion for surfing will help achieve the ISA's goal of developing the sport globally for a better surfing future."
The ISA's newest staff members arrive at a crucial time. Escaba, with a strong background in marketing, communications, new media, and events execution, will manage all marketing and media initiatives from development to execution. He will be tasked with traveling to all ISA events around the world and coordinate all media to maximize the integration, value and global reach of the ISA.
"I'm excited to join the ISA as I have followed the activities of the organization for a long time," commented Escaba. "Through my passion for surfing and experience in media, I'm looking forward to help the ISA achieve its goals and objective of developing the sport of surfing world-wide."
Duarte comes from the highly acclaimed magazine Surfos, based in San Jose, Costa Rica. While Editor-in-Chief of the print and online magazine, Duarte has previously worked several ISA events as the Local Media Manager. Duarte will be responsible for overseeing all media relations and planning initiatives directly with the Latin American media outlets. Reporting to Escaba, Duarte will help with the development of all ISA events, communications, and media relations in this key market.
After six years of hard work and dedication to the ISA, Pablo Zanocchi will be departing to pursue a career as a journalist at Uruguay's leading daily newspaper, El Observador. "Pablo has been a solid team member of the ISA Headquarters. He has played an important role since joining the ISA in 2005. We will miss him and wish him all the best as he embarks on this new stage of his career closer to his home and his new family," remarked the ISA President, Fernando Aguerre.
The International Surfing Association (ISA) is recognized by the International Olympic Committee as the World Governing Authority for Surfing. It was originally founded as the International Surfing Federation in 1964 and has been running the Open Division World Championship since 1964, the World Junior Surfing Championship since 1980, the World Masters Surfing Championship since 2007, the World Bodyboard Championship since 2011, and the Hainan Wanning Riyue Bay International Surfing Festival in China and the World Standup Paddle (SUP) and Paddleboard Championship beginning in 2012. The ISA also sanctions the World Kneeboard Titles and the World Tandem Surfing Championship, and will launch the World Longboard Championship in 2013.
ISA membership includes the surfing National Governing Bodies of 72 countries on five continents. Its headquarters are located in La Jolla, California. It is presided over by Fernando Aguerre (Argentina), first elected President in 1994 in Rio de Janeiro and re-elected seven times since. The ISA's four Vice-Presidents are Alan Atkins (AUS), Karín Sierralta (PER), Debbie Beacham (USA) and Layne Beachley (AUS).
